Brief Biography

Jim BretesHello! I was born and raised in Jackson Michigan and I graduated from Vandercook Lake High School in 1975. My interest in pottery began in 10th grade high school. I attended 2 years of Jackson Community College and 2 years at Kellogg Community College, majoring in Arts.

Over the years as I developed my pottery. I started mixing my own claybodies and formulating my own glazes. I established Crossroads Pottery in 1989. I've been working with clay for over 20 years, have traveled all over the Midwest. Done over 200 art shows and have received recognition from the various newspapers, and featured in a local television news special. I have received requests from Art Galleries in the Midwest and have won a number of prizes and ribbons from various art shows.

In 2001 my wife and I established Crossroads Pottery and Clay Co. I started selling clay and chemicals for Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio Schools as well as for potters.

Upon request, I teach classes up to 4 days a week in my 1,500 sq. ft. studio. I teach wheel throwing, extruding, slab building and hand building. My building and store is located behind my home, where I resides with my wife Connie, 3 cats, and 1 dog.

Constance Bretes

Brief Biography

Constance Bretes A big hello and welcome, to Crossroads Pottery and Clay Company website! We're glad you could visit with us and hope you find our site useful for you.

I am co-owner of this business with Jim, my husband. We started this business in July, 2001 and it's been an amazing year for us.

When I met Jim in 1993, I never dreamed that I would be marrying someone who is an artist, and I never dreamed that I would be going with him to do art shows and sell pottery. We had a lot of fun doing it, and consequently, we fell in love and got married in 1995. An amazing thing too is that I never dreamed when I married him that we would eventually go into business for ourselves.

I have an Associates Degree in Business Administration, and I am currently studying for my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. I also work full time in Lansing for the State.

Jim and I don't have any children, but Jim does have a son from a previous marriage. We have three cats, and one dog, Simba, Reebok, Katy, and Buckwheat.

My hobbies are reading, playing the piano, bowling, and playing with the "kids". I also have a darling little nephew name Austin Daniel Carpenter, who I just adore and spend as much time as I can with him, and it never seems to be enough.

Well, enough about me, I hope you enjoyed our little chat. Come back and visit us again!
